Location
Westmead, Sydney, NSW
Project
732 kW solar shaging & BIPV system
1393 solar PV panels
93 vertically-mounted BIPV panels (gold-coloured)
System Benefits
Enough energy to power 142 homes for a year
System powers 75 x EV charging stations within the carpark
Setting the benchmark for other healthcare facilities considering on site renewable energy
Multi-storey car parks are boring, right?! Not all of them! Look what a bit of good design and renewable energy can do to transform a purely functional space into a power station with latest solar PV technology.
Westmead Children’s Hospital built an 8-storey carpark (for 1000 cars) but was ambitious to include a 1,400 solar panel PV system providing shading and weather protection on the top level of the facility. The gold, vertically mounted building integrated solar panels are a design and innovation piece that set this project apart from others.
The system also powers 75 electric vehicle charging stations, promoting the use of clean transportation.
The project has set a benchmark for other healthcare facilities, demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of adopting renewable energy solutions. This initiative has not only improved the hospital's energy efficiency but also inspired other institutions to follow suit, amplifying the positive impact on the environment and society.
