Overview

Ararat Wind Farm, one of Victoria’s major wind farms, has now joined Iberdrola Australia’s portfolio following the March 2026 acquisition of the 242 MW site. The wind farm represents an important milestone for Iberdrola Australia’s, as our first owned asset in Victoria, and our largest single windfarm.  It further strengthens our national renewable energy footprint.

Operational since 2017 and acquired by Iberdrola Australia in March 2026, the wind farm comprises 75 GE turbines with a 135 m tip height and 103 m rotor diameter, delivering 242 MW of renewable capacity. Ararat Wind Farm generates enough clean electricity to power approximately 120,000 Victorian homes.

Location

Ararat Wind Farm is situated 80 km north-west of Melbourne near the town of Ararat. The site benefits from strong, consistent wind resources and established energy transmission infrastructure.

National Footprint Contribution

With the addition of Ararat Wind Farm, Iberdrola Australia now owns and operates more than 2.5 GW of capacity across New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. This reinforces our position as one of Australia’s leading providers of renewable energy and strengthens our ability to deliver reliable, clean power to Australia.

This acquisition also enhances Iberdrola Australia’s ability to supply its business customers with its own generation while also selling a significant portion of its output through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

Supporting Australia’s Energy Transition

Ararat Wind Farm plays an important role in Australia’s clean energy transition by:

  • Supporting Victoria’s path to 95% renewable generation by 2035

  • Helping build a more reliable and resilient Australian energy system

  • Supporting regional jobs and local engagement
