Proposal
The proposed Bundaberg Regional Battery at Gin Gin (the project) is located on privately owned land on the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda people’s country, within the Bundaberg Regional Council and approximately 20 km west on the Bruce Highway from the Gin Gin township. If approved, the battery will have a capacity of up to 500 MW.
Current Stage
The project lodged its Material Change of Use (MCU) and Reconfiguration of a Lot (ROL) Application with Bundaberg Regional Council in June 2024. As part of the Development Application, a series of investigations were undertaken, including traffic impact assessments, stormwater management, ecological assessments, bushfire risk assessments, and others. This development application was Called In by the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning in April 2026 and will be assessed and decided through this process.
Next Steps
The development application is currently being assessed by the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning. As part of the call in process the project will be undertaking a Social Impact Assessment and providing additional information as requested to the Minister to enable them to make a decision on the development application.
